June Dudas
SoCal Regional Policy Co-Director
June Dudas is driven by a deep commitment to improving the lives of people with severe mental illness and the families who support them.
For more than 50 years, June has supported her family through mental-health crises — beginning with her single teenage mother's struggles with bipolar disorder and alcoholism, and later caring for her only sibling after the onset of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, substance use, and anosognosia.
For the past 15 years she has tried to help her cousin through the persistent cycle of homelessness and incarceration resulting from his schizoaffective disorder and addiction. Frustrated by systemic barriers to care, she brought these issues to local and state media and was later featured on the podcast Tradeoffs which focuses on national healthcare issues.
With nearly three decades of management experience in municipal government, June knows what it takes to navigate systems, politics and hierarchies towards a common goal.
In addition to her statewide work in support of NSSC’s mission, June participates in a local working group to strengthen the Care Act, on a county advisory group focused on recent conservatorship changes under California’s Lanterman–Petris–Short Act, and is a long-standing board member and volunteer at a San Diego nonprofit that works to address the physical and emotional needs of homeless and at-risk children.
In her personal life, June loves spending time with her adult children and her three remarkable grandchildren. Gardening, kayaking, traveling with her husband, and long, leisurely walks with friends help keep her grounded.
